A recipe from private bartender Jeff Raposa.

  • 1/2 lime, cut into thirds
  • 4–5 fresh blackberries
  • Small bunch fresh mint (including thin, tender stems)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (or white sugar)
  • Ice, preferably crushed
  • 2 ounces dark rum (or light rum)
  • Soda water
  • Mint sprig and slice of lime, for garnish

1. In a tall glass, squeeze lime juice from wedges, and add wedges, blackberries, mint, and sugar. With a muddler or long spoon, muddle ingredients until blended.

2. Fill the rest of the glass with ice, add the rum, and give it a stir.

3. Fill to top with soda water and garnish with mint sprig and lime.
