This competition brought in 122 remarkably diverse entries from across North America and as far away as Taiwan. Here are the top three winners and seven honorable mentions. Though our judging is done without knowledge of photographers’ identities, we’ve seen five of this year’s top picks in our first two contests: Bob Gates, Evy Huppert, Amaru Pareja, Gary Riedel, and George H. Shattuck III. Thanks to everyone who shared their photographs of Martha’s Vineyard (see all of them on our website, www.mvmagazine.com), and keep your cameras at the ready for our fourth annual contest.
The judges
Our panel of ten judges includes magazine photographers Elizabeth Cecil and Peter Simon; Ivy Ashe, a photographer and writer for the Vineyard Gazette; Chris Baer, who teaches art, design, and technology at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School; Donald McKillop of Dragonfly Fine Arts Gallery in Oak Bluffs; Jane Seagrave, publisher of the Vineyard Gazette; and magazine staffers Morgan Taylor Lucero, Nicki Miller, Alley Moore, and Nancy Tutko. In the print magazine, our judges offer some comments on their favorites along with notes from the photographers.
